About Plateo

Plateo is an independent UK service. Enter a number plate and you get the full MOT history of the vehicle, the same record DVSA holds, with the mileage, every advisory and defect, and how the car compares with others of its model and year. Alongside that we publish the DVSA register of every MOT test station in England, Scotland and Wales, reliability figures for more than 700 models computed from the complete national test dataset, and the current vehicle tax tables.

Everything is free. There is no premium report, no account and nothing held back for a paid version.

Where the data comes from

Every figure on this site traces back to a government dataset published under the Open Government Licence: DVSA's MOT history records, the DVSA active test station register and the DVSA anonymised MOT results. The methodology page explains how each one is processed and what we deliberately leave out.

Independence

Plateo is not affiliated with, endorsed by or funded by DVSA, DVLA or GOV.UK. Official services remain the place to tax a vehicle, declare SORN or check live tax status, and we link to them wherever that is what you need.

Corrections

If a station listing is out of date or a figure looks wrong, tell us. We check every report against the source data and fix what needs fixing.
