What a test costs
DVSA caps the fee at £54.85 for a car, £29.65 for a motorcycle and £58.60 for a class 7 van. Stations may charge less and many do; the test is the same. A retest within ten working days is free for minor items if the car is brought back to the same station. Our car tax page covers the other annual cost, and the free reminder emails you before the certificate runs out.
Questions people ask
How do I find an MOT centre near me?
Enter your postcode above. The results list the nearest DVSA-approved stations with distance, phone number and the vehicle classes each tests. Every station in the official register is included, 23,072 in all.
Are all MOT centres the same?
The test is identical everywhere: same checklist, same DVSA standards, same certificate. What differs is the price (anything up to the £54.85 maximum for a car), the classes a station is authorised for, and whether the garage also does repairs.
Which stations test motorcycles or vans?
3,220 stations hold the class 1 and 2 authorisation for motorcycles and 6,760 hold class 7 for vans between 3,000kg and 3,500kg. Use the vehicle type selector, or the dedicated motorcycle and van pages.
Can I see a garage's pass rate?
No. The public DVSA dataset is anonymised and carries no station identifier, so per-garage pass rates cannot be calculated from it. Any site that shows one is estimating. We publish pass rates by make, model, year and postcode area instead.
